  • 1993

    Starbucks® baristas in Santa Monica, California began experimenting to develop an iced coffee beverage. Starbucks offers the beverage in test markets in California, and they are an instant hit.

  • 1994

    Starbucks® acquires The Coffee Connection in Boston and inherits their product, named "frappuccino". While the drink did not stay on the menu, the name was perfect for the new blended beverage. Starbucks® decides to extend the name Frappuccino to the new blended beverage being tested in California.

  • 1995

    Starbucks® launches the first Frappuccino® blended beverages, Coffee and Mocha, in its 550 stores across the United States and Canada.

  • 1996

    The first bottled Frappuccino® coffee drinks are introduced, helping to create the premium ready-to-drink coffee market in the U.S. & Canada.

  • 1999

    Starbucks® launches the now iconic green straw domed lid for the first time with the launch of Caramel Frappuccino® blended beverage and it's whipped cream with caramel drizzle. Today, Caramel Frappuccino® blended beverage is still one of the top-selling flavor.

  • 2002

    The first Frappuccino® Crème blended beverage - made without coffee or tea - are debuted. The four flavors include Vanilla Bean, Strawberries and Crème, Double Chocolate Chip, and Chai Crème.

  • 2004

    Starbucks® introduces Frappuccino® Light blended beverage, offering customers the choice of ordering any original Frappucino® blended beverage with 30%-40% fewer calories.

  • 2009

    Frappuccino® blended beverage goes digital with its own website and Facebook page, later joining Twitter(in 2010) and Instagram(2011).

  • 2010

    Starbucks® launches the However-You-Want-It Frappuccino® blended beverage, that allows customers to choose their options for milk or soy, types of coffee, syrups and toppings.

  • 2015

    Frappuccino® blended beverage turns 20!
